TIE DYE FRI DYE
Hello! Nurse Lily here. :]
I am very interested in Blue Zones and one important aspect of Blue Zones is a strong sense of community. (If you don't know what Blue Zones are, they are a handful of regions throughout the world that have the longest living and healthiest populations with many centenarians. There is a great documentary on Netflix.) I enjoy creating projects that foster community and I especially like doing that with art. Tie dye is a fun art form because each person creates a unique art piece. I taught the preschoolers that unique means, "special." The other thing that I love about tie dye is how you have no idea what your creation is going to look like after it is complete. I described the process to a student who was upset with their dye color choices as a caterpillar to a butterfly. We must wait to see what beautiful colors emerge. One of my favorite parts of the whole process is taking off the rubber bands and opening up each person's shirt in front of the class to get so many "oohhs and awwhhss."
To celebrate community and creativity we’re starting a new tradition at SFPM. “TIE DIE FRI DAY” and hope to see all of the students wearing their shirts every Friday!
